Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at contact@theautismclinic.co.uk if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Autism and ADHD identification

  • Our sessions last around three hours, two for the collaborative discussion and one for the developmental history (although this varies between clients).
  • We spend approximately two hours mapping the information gathered from the interview and questionnaires to the DSM-V and scoring the questionnaire data.
  • It takes a minimum of fours hours to write the report, summary letter, strengths based report and recommendations. It is important to note that the reports are all individualised and not template based, as we want to ensure your report is a good representation of you or your child.
  • Any resources we use such as questionnaires or standardised assessment are very costly

Clinicians

Our assessments include a minimum of two clinicians from two different clinical backgrounds. This meets the NICE guidelines for a ‘gold standard’ autism assessment. Although autism can be identified by a single Clinical Psychologist, using a single clinician is not best practice and we therefore use two to three clinicians for your assessment.

Training and experience

Our clinicians invest a lot of time and money to become qualified to be registered. This is usually a minimum of fours years. The additional training costs to become specialists in neurodevelopment are very high, for example, the cost of ADOS-2 training is around £2000 for a single clinician.

Maintaining registration and running a business

In addition to the above costs, we also pay:

  • professional registration fees
  • professional insurance
  • Professional association fees, such as the RSCLT or the BPS
  • Website costs
  • telephone and internet
  • professional clinical supervision fees
  • specialised ongoing training costs to ensure that we are up to date with neuroaffirmative assessment techniques and theory
  • maintaining a professional library and resources

We love what we do, but undertaking an autism or ADHD assessment is both time and labour intensive work, which requires a high level of skill and training to undertake competently. We hope that this explains the high cost, but please get in touch if you have any questions regarding our price structure.

Yes. We offer payment plans with our partner, GoCardless. More information can be found here.

At present, we are not registered providers for the NHS Right to Choose service, although we hope to be in the future.
