Frequently Asked Questions

Autism and ADHD identification

  • There are a number of hours of pre-assessment information gathering which take place, including sending and collating questionnaires and forms, chasing school information (for child assessments) and liaising with families and professionals
  • Our sessions last around six hours, three for the collaborative discussion and three the informant interview/developmental history (although this varies between clients).
  • We spend approximately two hours mapping the information gathered from the interview and questionnaires to the DSM-V and scoring the questionnaire data.
  • Our MDT takes a minimum of one hour
  • It takes a minimum of fours hours to write the report, summary letter, strengths based report and recommendations. It is important to note that the reports are all individualised and not template based, as we want to ensure your report is a good representation of you or your child.
  • Any resources we use such as questionnaires or standardised assessment are very costly
  • Our assessments are individually adapted to your communication and support needs, not just a checkbox or script.

Clinicians

Our assessments include a minimum of two clinicians from two different clinical backgrounds. This meets the NICE guidelines for a ‘gold standard’ autism assessment. Although autism can be identified by a single Clinical Psychologist, using a single clinician is not best practice and we therefore use two to three clinicians for your assessment.

Training and experience

Our clinicians invest a lot of time and money to become qualified to be registered. This is usually a minimum of fours years. The additional training costs to become specialists in neurodevelopmental assessment are very high, for example, the cost of ADOS-2 training is around £2000 for a single clinician.

Maintaining registration and running a business

In addition to the above costs, we also pay:

  • professional registration fees
  • professional insurance
  • Professional association fees, such as the RSCLT or the BPS
  • Website costs
  • telephone and internet
  • Rent and utilities
  • professional clinical supervision fees
  • specialised ongoing training costs to ensure that we are up to date with neuroaffirmative assessment techniques and theory
  • maintaining a professional library and resources

We love what we do, but undertaking an autism or ADHD assessment comprehensively and thoroughly is (rightly) both time and labour intensive work, which requires a high level of skill and training to undertake competently. We try to keep the cost as affordable as possible and offer payment plans for our clients to help spread the cost. We hope that this explains the high cost, but please get in touch if you have any questions regarding our price structure.

Yes. We offer payment plans with our partner, GoCardless. More information can be found here.

At present, we are not registered as providers for the NHS Right to Choose service
